Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
